Someone asked me how many beds I'd slept in on this holiday. Well, as of this morning, it's 19 different beds in the past 6 weeks. That includes the hotel in Vancouver the night before leaving.
This was our last morning on New Zealand's South Island and the beginning of the last leg of our 3 part visit Downunder. We are anticipating bit of a let-down as we're pretty sure we've already seen most of the best scenery this country has to offer.
We had a lazy morning in Picton before catching the Interislander ferry for a three and a half hour crossing to Wellington. It's a beautiful ferry and we had a good, if delayed, trip. During the trip I tried to Skype the kids in Vancouver with no luck. Wifi access has been extremely difficult in this part of the world. If it is even accessible from our accommodation, it's been expensive, and/or restricted to 30 minutes per day. I decided to buy access for the ferry trip and visit the kids as it is Remembrance Day and they'd be home. I managed to reach them but used up my allotted data within a couple of minutes. I bought more time, after being cut off, and got only enough to post a blog and message the kids that there'd be no more Skype today.
This was also our last chance to feel like royalty, being met at the Wellington ferry terminal by a young man who took us to our hotel. From now on, we're on our own - no more chauffeurs, shuttles or organized accommodation for us :(
After checking in, we found a pub called Big Dogs where we tried the local Wellington beer (Tuatara -not to our liking), a great spinach and blue cheese soup and roasted vegetable salad. Yum!!
